Which salary is required

SEK 30,640 or SEK 34,470. Which level is likely to apply depends on when the permit was granted and when you apply.

There are two levels: SEK 30,640 and SEK 34,470. Which one is likely to apply depends on when the permit was granted and when the extension is registered. The calculator makes that comparison. The reasoning is here, with the source beside it.

The two levels

The new salary requirement is a monthly salary of at least SEK 34,470. That is 90 percent of the median wage SEK 38,300, published by Statistics Sweden on 16 June 2026.

During the transition, the maintenance requirement is a monthly salary of at least SEK 30,640. That is 80 percent of the same median wage.

If your current permit was granted before 1 June 2026, the older level can apply during the transition. If it was granted after 1 June 2026, the new salary requirement applies already.

The pages distinguish permits granted before 1 June 2026 from permits granted after 1 June 2026. They do not explicitly say what applies to a permit granted on that exact day.

Extension applications registered with the Swedish Migration Agency from 2 December 2026 onwards are covered by the new salary requirement.

The pages say the new salary requirement covers applications registered from 2 December 2026, and describe the transition as 1 June 2026 to 1 December 2026. Another page has written that the window starts the day after 1 June 2026. The cut-over is therefore marked to be verified. Do not rely on a filing right on the boundary without reading the source yourself.

If your permit was granted before 1 June 2026 and you register your part by 1 December 2026, SEK 30,640 can still be the level. From 2 December 2026 the pages point to SEK 34,470. If the permit was granted after 1 June 2026, the higher level applies now.

Example. Priya was granted her permit in March 2025. It ends on 20 January 2027, so she can apply from 20 November 2026. She earns SEK 32,000 a month. If she applies by 1 December 2026, the older requirement of SEK 30,640 is likely to apply, and the salary is enough. If she applies from 2 December 2026, SEK 34,470 is required. Priya is not a real person.

What counts as salary

Salary means money paid regularly for work done. Recurring unsocial-hours pay and overtime count if they are written into the employment contract. Benefits, such as free food and lodging, do not count.

The monthly salary must also be in line with a collective agreement or with what is usual in the occupation or industry. It may need to be higher than the salary floor.

Free housing or a free lunch does not lift a low cash salary up to the floor. A fixed unsocial-hours payment that is written into the contract can, if it is paid regularly.

Occupations with a lower level

Some occupations and groups are exempt from the ordinary salary requirement. Their salary must then be at least 75 percent of the median wage, currently SEK 28,725. The list that applies is the one in force when the Swedish Migration Agency decides.

The calculator assumes the ordinary floor. The exemptions are a list at the Swedish Migration Agency, including some care, farming and technical occupations, and the list in force at the decision is the one that applies. If your occupation might be on it, read the list before you treat the calculator’s figure as yours.

Earlier months

The calculator compares earlier months with the level that likely applies to your extension. The Swedish Migration Agency uses the median wage at the time of the application, so an earlier month may have been judged against a different figure.

Treat the hits as a signal. They are not a decision that a given month was or was not enough.

Common questions

Which salary applies if I apply in November 2026?

If the permit was granted before 1 June 2026 and your part is registered before 2 December 2026, the level can be SEK 30,640. If the permit was granted after 1 June 2026, the level is SEK 34,470. The calculator shows which one likely applies to your dates.

Is it enough that the employer submits before 1 December?

No. The application is registered when you submit your part. Ask the employer to start so that you can finish your part by 1 December 2026, if you want to stay on the older level.

Can the salary need to be higher than the floor?

Yes. The floor is a minimum. A collective agreement or what is usual in the occupation can sit higher, and that level has to be met as well.
